<image:title>About Dr. Sara Aslan - I’m Dr. Sara Aslan, PhD,</image:title>
<image:caption>I am a licensed Psychologist, I have been providing therapeutic services for individuals, couples, and families since 2010. I am currently providing in-person and virtual sessions to adults and adolescents residing in Oregon and Washington, and virtual sessions to those residing in PSYPACT States. I began working with individuals struggling with Eating Disorders in 2010. Upon completion of a Master’s Degree from the University of San Francisco, I was a therapist at an outpatient eating disorder treatment center, provided therapy at a nonprofit offering services to those struggling with eating disorders, and started a private practice. I quickly realized that I was also seeing experiences of trauma interfere with my client’s healing processes, and knew learning to adequately treat trauma was something that was imperative to the overall wellbeing of my clients. I also knew that in order to grow as a therapist I needed to push myself out of my comfort zone, and learn more about the human experience in a completely different environment. For these reasons, I began to take part in international research, in Western Samoa and Thailand; and chose to work on my PhD in Kansas City, under an advisor with a background in trauma and disordered eating. During this process I was able to continue my work with eating disorders, both in research and clinical practice; and I was also able to start my work in helping individuals heal from trauma.</image:caption>

<image:title>About Dr. Sara Aslan - In 2015, I began providing trauma treatment in individual and group settings, while working in the residential unit of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center. I was also able to gain ample experience in Neuropsychological Testing and Assessment. Over this year, I received in-depth training in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and knew I wanted more training in other trauma modalities.</image:title>
<image:caption>In 2018, I was fortunate enough to complete my pre-doctoral internship at the Colmery-O'Neil Veterans Affairs Medical Center, work with their Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Clinical Team, and train in their residential Stress Disorder Treatment Program. Here I was able to receive training in Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), and provide PE and CPT in both individual and group settings. Upon completion of my PhD, I served as the Clinical Director of an outpatient eating disorder treatment center in Portland, Oregon. Again, I wanted to push myself as a clinician and felt it necessary to round off my training and work in an inpatient unit at the Portland VA Medical Center. I take pride in the work I do, the care I give to my clients, and utilize the extensive training I have received in order to help my clients live free from whatever pain they are experiencing. Like the meaning of the clove, I too want my clients to live with dignity, heal pain, and hold the ability to withstand the troubles they face.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Treatment</image:title>
<image:caption>Trauma and PTSD Trauma and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) are ailments that can plague a person’s life for years. Every person’s experiences and reactions to trauma are unique, and yet there are similar areas that are impacted in people’s lives. I have worked with a wide range of individuals and groups who have been negatively impacted by trauma, meet full criteria for a PTSD diagnosis, and who have been struggling for years to decades. Here’s the good news: trauma and PTSD is ABSOLUTELY treatable. I have witnessed the lives of people change dramatically, and there is no better gift than this; living free of this burden. With each person I have worked with, I continue to be amazed at how quickly they gain relief. I utilize two highly structured protocols with individuals who are ready to do the necessary work. The first is Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), a gold-standard treatment for adults and adolescents with PTSD. This is a highly researched and utilized evidence-based practice, and produces the best long-term outcomes for individuals who complete the 12 sessions. CPT works with the thoughts that we experience after trauma, helping clients learn to challenge and change these harmful cognitions. With these new understanding of the traumatic event(s), individuals begin to see an improvement within themselves, their relationships, and in overall life. The second treatment protocol I utilize is Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE). PE is also a heavily researched and utilized evidence-based practice, and developed to treat PTSD. Sessions are also very structured, roughly last for about 8-15 sessions, that are 90 mins in length. This approach involves gradually facing whatever it is the trauma experiences has made the client avoid, taking place in safe environments. There are two different types of exposures that we will be working on together at the pace of the client, imaginal and in vivo exposure. Imaginal Exposure takes place in session, described by the client, so that emotional processing can take place. In Vivo Exposure, occurs outside of session, gradually challenging oneself in confronting feared stimuli. <image:title>Treatment - Couples and Family Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>I believe in many cases, an individual can only do so much on their own and real healing needs to take place within the couple and/or family. Couples and family therapy is used to address relationship conflicts by working on more effective communication and interactions within the system. Both members of the couple will be present in sessions, and I usually work with all family members together, but this is not always the case; it depends on the situation. Prepare for active sessions, where we tackle the things that aren’t being communicated constructively. There will be homework assigned, and we will all be holding ourselves accountable throughout the process. I have been working with couples and families for over 12 years, and am trained in several treatment modalities which I draw from in order to tailor the sessions to your unique experiences. Links are available below for more detailed information. Treatment Modalities Structural Family Therapy Bowenian Family Therapy/Family Systems Theory Strategic Family Therapy</image:caption>
